While you may have heard this term before, read on to learn everything you need to know about this skincare saver.
Upon first hearing a phrase with the word ‘needle’ in it, you may be a bit intimidated. This widely used and trusted treatment, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) or skin needling, has been in practice since 1995. It involves tiny needles applied to the skin that minimally injure the surface of the skin to create “micro-punctures” or “poke holes.” The epidermis is not harmed because these needles are very fine, sterile, single-use and safe. The treatment has been described as “painless” or “low pain,” with some areas more sensitive than others.
Consumers seek out this treatment for a variety of both cosmetic and health-related reasons, including: acne, burn scars, wrinkles, stretch marks, melisma (pigmentation issues), hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), alopecia (hair loss) and photo-damage (ultraviolet exposure from sunlight).
