Is Electrolysis Safe for the Summer?
Electrolysis in the summer is perfectly safe. However, it is important to follow some basic rules to protect your skin. After electrolysis treatment, the treated follicle is more open and slightly irritated. As a result, the follicles are more susceptible to bacteria and germs. Do not expose the treated area to the sun for a minimum of 24 hours before and approximately 48 hours after treatment.
Use Sunscreen
It is important to apply a high-caliber sunscreen immediately after the treatment session and until the complete healing of the skin. A sunscreen that has a higher SPF rating only provides a minimal amount of increased protection compared to a lower SPF rating. It is best to choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen that will protect you from UVA and UVB rays. It is also important to choose a sunscreen that contains vitamins such as vitamin E and C. Vitamin E can protect against UV-induced DNA damage, and vitamin C helps protect the skin from sunburn.
Recommended Sunscreen: OmbraCrème by Action De Gala
OmbraCrème by Action De Gala is one of my favorite post-epilation sunscreens. This high-protection cream not only relieves discomfort caused by inflammation but also promotes healing and camouflages redness because it is tinted. Since OmbraCrème is zinc-based, it protects effectively against UVA and UVB rays and prevents the appearance of age spots. Like any sunscreen of this caliber, you have to reapply a new coat at least every two hours. The advantage of OmbraCrème is that it contains a minimum of chemical filters, giving the skin very natural protection. OmbraCrème also includes emu oil, vitamin E, and allantoin, thereby promoting the skin’s hydration and regeneration.
Avoid Hyperpigmentation
If the treated area is exposed to the sun, brown pigment spots can form. Your skin defends against UV rays by producing pigment, which will naturally deflect some of the harmful rays. After electrolysis, the skin is slightly traumatized and can over-produce pigment in those areas, resulting in hyperpigmentation.
Wear Protective Clothing
In addition to sunscreen, wearing certain clothing items after electrolysis is a simple way to protect your skin. Hats, sunglasses, and scarves are excellent ways to protect the facial area post-epilation.
With these simple rules, electrolysis is safe in summer. Simply avoid the sun for a few days and apply your high-caliber broad-spectrum sunscreen regularly. After these few days, you may enjoy the sun and the heat again and show off the results of your electrolysis sessions. Book your free consultation with Emily today and make the most of summer!
